ACTIVEO

We are keen to have new member families join our group and do all we can to welcome them. But as interest in home education soars, we must limit the resources to helping families who are actually home-educating. The national organisations, such as Education Otherwise www.education-otherwise.org and the Home Education Advisory Service www.heas.org.uk are the best people to contact if you are a general or tentative enquirer. Once they have decided to home educate, new families are often very thankful for our induction process.

Remember that ActivEO is run entirely by volunteer members and supported only by subscribers. We are a self-help group. Please don’t expect anyone to do more for you than you would do for others and that a lengthy telephone conversation needs to be mutually convenient.

This is how the induction process works:

Step 1

To start the process of joining ActivEO email Julie, our membership secretary, activeo@btinternet.com or phone her on 01243 552472 with your name, address, family details (child’s date of birth and interests) and how you heard of ActivEO. Ideally an ActivEO family with several years’ experience of home education will then contact you to arrange an introductory get-together so that you and your children can get to know someone a bit before going to events. This is also a chance for you to ask questions and to find out if ActivEO will be the right group for you.

Step 2

After an introductory get-together, if you think ActivEO is right for your family, let Julie know and you will receive our membership information leaflet with a subscription form and a complimentary ActivEO newsletter.

There will be about 30 events for you to choose from over the duration of two newsletters and attend as, what we call a Guest Member Family.

Step 3

Once you have been a Guest Member Family and attended at least 3 events you will have met many member families. This will give you a good idea of whether you wish to go ahead with full membership. If you do, please send a cheque for your subscription as indicated on your membership information leaflet and you will receive the next issue of the newsletter as an ActivEO member.

ActivEO reserves the right to refuse initial membership without qualification.
